ADDISON - Watkins Glen topped Addison 56-36 Saturday in a non-league boys basketball contest.

The Senecas jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first eight minutes and extended their lead to 32-18 at halftime.

Owen Scholtisek netted all 16 of his points in the first half including 13 in the second quarter capped off by buzzer-beating shot from beyond half court to extend the lead heading into halftime.

"Owen really got us going in the first half," Watkins Glen head coach John Fazzary said. "And with the shot he hit at the end of the half, if you’re an opposing coach and that goes in you know it’s not going to be your night."

Watkins Glen kept the Knights on the defense in the second half, outscoring them 24-18 over the final 16 minutes of the game.

Mitch Pike led the Senecas with 18 points along with three 3-pointers in the third quarter to hold off Addison.

"Mitch Pike picked it up in the second half with 11 points that held them at bay," said Fazzary.

The Senecas defense held Addison to just 18 points in each half.

"We played pretty good overall good team defense," Fazzary said. "When you’re hold a team under 40 points, you’re going to have success."

John Stierly led the Knights with 10 points, Cade Heysham and Trevor Knapp had nine points.

Watkins Glen improves to 11-1 with the win and will host Waverly in its next contest.
