ELMIRA - Elmira used a strong second half to get past Horseheads 66-45 Thursday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls basketball contest.


Horseheads held a 29-28 halftime lead, but was outscored 18-8 in the third quarter followed by a 22-9 outburst in the final frame.


Kiara Fisher led the Hawks with 19 points, followed by Morgan Gentile with 16 points and Zaria Shazer added 13 points.


Fisher and Shazer had five points each to give the Express the lead in the third quarter.


Gentile paced the Express in the final frame with nine points.


Jenna Granger had seven points in the first half for the Blue Raiders to help them gain a halftime lead while Avery Snyder contributed eight points.


Elmira improves to 14-1 with the win including a perfect 10-0 in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference. Horseheads falls to 10-5 with a 6-3 record in STAC play.
