CORNING - Corning swept Elmira Monday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference bowling contest with the boys taking home a 5-0 win and the girls winning 4-1.
The Hawks boys clinched the Southern Tier Athletic Conference West title with their sweep of Elmira by a pin total of 2,935-2,808 after the Express defeated Corning 5-0 earlier in the season.
“I’m proud of this group,” Corning head coach Eric Kizis said. “Winning STAC West was one of the goals we set early this season, so we checked one off tonight.”
Brody Amidon led Corning with a 635 series including a 227 and 216 game. Michael Hoffman-Belluci rolled a 608 series that included a 243 series. Also for Corning, Joseph Enderle had a 211 game and Isaiah Beschler posted a 207 game.
“Brody Amidon was terrific,“ said Kizis. ”he read the lanes well and adjusted as needed. Michael and Isaiah added some good support as well. We have done a better job of closing frames and we needed that tonight.“
Nolan Storch recorded a 625 for Elmira (225, 213, 187).
In the girls game, Meghan Sturdevant rolled a 662 series for the Hawks (254, 159, 249) while Dusti VanHouten-Foster added a 552 series and Rachel Borden chipped in a 538 series.
“The girls team bowled great tonight,” said Kizis. “Meghan Sturdevant was outstanding. The time and effort she has put in lately to master her shot making was evident tonight. Dusti had a good series as well.”
Kayla Avery scored a 604 series for the Express (200, 180, 224).
