Comedy legend Chevy Chase brings 'Christmas Vacation' screening to Binghamton Dec. 19

The movie star who asked cousin Eddie, “Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?” is coming to Binghamton for a night of fun and laughs.

Comedy legend Chevy Chase will appear at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena on Dec. 19 for a 7:30 p.m. screening of his beloved holiday spoof “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

After the showing of the holiday classic on the big screen, the celebration will continue with Chase, who starred as Clark Griswold in the comedy, sharing stories from his career and the making of his classic movies and legendary television programs.

Promoters promise a "no-holds-barred trip down memory lane" and caution fans to "expect the unexpected."

An original cast member of Saturday Night Live, Chase’s appearance is being produced by Magic City Productions and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.com and at the Mirabito Box Office located in Visions Veterans Memorial Arena.

Tickets for the show are priced at $78.50, $48.50 and $38.50, with all the prices and details to be updated soon on the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena website.

A limited number of VIP tickets that include the best seats will be available on Ticketmaster.com. Photo opportunities with Chase are planned with the VIP experience, depending on current public health recommendations. A benefit of equal value will be substituted if the photo opportunity can’t take place.

VIP ticket holders will be required to wear a mask and may be required to show proof of vaccination or of a negative COVID test. Refunds for the VIP experience must be requested no later than two weeks before the show.

Chase helped turn SNL success into Hollywood mega-stardom. He starred in “Caddyshack,” “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” “Fletch,” and “Three Amigos.”

“Christmas Vacation” has grown in popularity since its 1989 theatrical release, with fans of the movie returning each holiday season to watch Clark Griswold’s plan for a “perfect family Christmas” go awry, thanks in part to hapless cousin Eddie played by Randy Quaid.  

The film is ranked #2 on Esquire’s list of “The 40 Best Christmas Movies” of all time.
