Tribune introduces Wnek as new publisher

One look at the Hornell area, and Michael Wnek was hooked.

The seasoned newspaper manager, who has been named publisher of The Evening Tribune by GateHouse Media, said he looks forward to working at a publication building bridges to the digital age.

“My wife and I came to the Southern Tier area and just felt comfortable right away, with the people we met, the landscape and the rolling hills,” the 41-year-old, Norridge, Ill, native said. “We are excited to get to an area where we see ourselves taking root and raising a family.”

Wnek and his wife, Robbyn, have a three-year-old daughter, Nora.

Wnek has been in the newspaper industry since 1997, working as a circulation sales manager and then in regional sales and marketing responsibilities before his most recent assignment, that as general manager of Heartland’s southern hub of publications based in?Lumberton,?N.C.

The runner and fly fisherman said he expects to involve himself in the community immediately.

“I just hope to bring my optimism and get involved in the community and help this media company be a great source of information for the community, and to provide our advertisers and businesses with the best way to market their products to our readers,” he said.
