Bath Lions mark 70 years

Press Release

December 7th, 1941 was a date burned forever in the history of the United States of America as the Japanese Empire made a devastating attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  It was also the original date for the Charter Night banquet and celebration of the Bath Lions Club. The officers of the new club moved the date to December 11 at the Hotel Wagner in downtown Bath, NY.

The new club was sponsored by the Corning Lions Club and the Charter was presented by then District Governor, Dr. Frederick W. Neff. Accepting the Charter was Lion President Wayne Fairbanks of the Bath Lions Club.  Accolades were given by a number of speakers, including Lion Walter Tane, president of the Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada Lions Club and the Rev. Henry C. Manley of St. Mary'Church.

A lavish banquet preceded the speakers, which included local entertainment such as the Haverling High Sextet and the “Hotel Wagnerettes”.  This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Bath Lions Club and the Club is planning to hold a membership drive in the Spring, followed by an anniversary celebration.
