Jobs head list of economic concerns

Staff reports

Local efforts have arisen from the recent joint economic study by the villages of Bath and Savona and Town of Bath.

According to minutes from a recent meeting of the committee: The Bath VA and Corning Community College are considering setting up classes on the VA campus.

Grants for the village of Bath are being processed.

The village of Savona is considering a farmer’s market.

Discussion on a produce distribution center is going forward.

The town of Bath may investigate a retail travel service center at Interstate 86 interchange 37 with merchants in the area.

According to a $25,000 study of the area earlier this year by peterjsmith, the top priority for residents was job creation, which was ranked the highest by 62 percent of the responders.

Residents also ranked high protection of the environment and the preserving the historic nature of the area.

The survey also showed the four municipalities lose more than $2 million annually because of a lack of large retail outlets and drugstores, said.

While the report included a long list of potential projects and their costs, there was no recommendation on where a joint municipal committee should proceed.
