Nominations sought for Youth Development Awards

Press Release

Realizing that helping children and youth is not always easy, the Steuben County Youth Board continues to accept nominations until November 30, 2012 for two youth development awards that will be selected by the Youth Board and presented at its annual dinner in January, 2013.

The “Youth Service Worker of the Year” Award has been presented annually since 1994 to recognize one youth service worker who has done an outstanding job of assisting youth. The 2012 Youth Service Worker of the Year was Colleen Clancey, School Counselor of Vernon E. Wightman Primary School in Bath.

Newly established for 2012, the “Champion for Youth” Award will be presented annually to recognize one individual who has done an outstanding job of supporting youth programs from “behind the scenes.” The nominee may have direct contact with youth, but should have a clear history of working in a broader sense to advance youth services in the county. Community leaders, public officials, key board members, or anyone else who has positively impacted youth development programming would be appropriate.

Individuals or organizations from across Steuben County are encouraged to submit nominations for either or both awards, with the exception of direct family members of a nominee.

The nomination forms are available online at the county's website () by selecting the Youth Bureau from the Departments and Services tab. Forms, as well as additional information, are also available by contacting the Youth Bureau at 607-664-2119 or at
