New, extended teaser released for Paramount+ horror movie filmed in Allegany County
An Allegany County community will take its star turn Oct. 29 when the latest installment of a popular and profitable horror movie franchise arrives just in time for Halloween on Paramount+.
The premium channel recently released a second, lengthier teaser for “Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin” — the seventh installment in the found-footage movies series and the first to head directly to the nation’s television and mobile screens rather than its movie theaters.
The Allegany County backdrop is on full and terrifying display in the new two and a half minute trailer, which includes shots of the skyline, rural roads and forest.
Produced by The Paramount Players and Blumhouse Productions, major photography for "Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin" was shot last spring in the northern Allegany County town of Allen at a white, two-story Amish-built farmhouse. A nearby barn housed all of the accoutrements of filmmaking, including lights, cameras and sound equipment.
The property had been vacant prior to the arrival of the filmmakers.
The producers also rented out the Short Tract Volunteer Fire Company’s hall and surrounding land, where they parked a tractor trailer-sized generator, several large trailers, a food truck and a fleet of school buses and vans to shuttle cast and crew to the set.
There may be some familiar Western New York actors in the production. Earlier this year, Casting Buffalo issued a notice for “Amish-type folk” including an “Elder grandfather — male, Caucasian, 70+, weathered appearance, full beards (willing to match proper Amish-type look), no visible tattoos or piercings, healthy.” Other roles include an elder grandmother, young adults, children who can sing, and people who have experience working with horses and buggies or in carpentry and blacksmithing.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin” is directed by William Eubank, written by Christopher Landon, the son of the late Michael Landon, and stars Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayers-Brown.
The 30-second trailer announces “The Activity” is “reborn,” an indication that “Next of Kin” is a new direction in a franchise that began in 2007 with the release of “Paranormal Activity.” The latest movie in the franchise was “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension,” released in 2015.
According to industry estimates, the six previous films have grossed nearly $900 million in the worldwide box office.
