Teen driver airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital after Cohocton accident
An 18 year-old from Avoca was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital with several injuries after an accident on Route 371 in the Town of Cohocton.
Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies report the 18-year-old, name not released, was driving on Route 371 when he allegedly left the roadway and collided with a NYSEG utility pole, which caused the vehicle to overturn and land on its wheels in a field.
The injured teen then continued to drive the heavily damaged vehicle about half a mile north on State Route 371 where a local resident observed the scene and called 911.
The driver was transported from the scene. Deputies report the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
As a result of the collision with the NYSEG pole, the surrounding area lost power for several hours.?Bath ALS, Cohocton and Atlanta volunteer fire departments assisted on the scene.
