Petit larceny

BATH | Kathleen Marie Cole, 20, of 2 Oldfield Court, was charged Dec. 8 with petit larceny.

Criminal contempt

BATH | Vanessa L. Fisher, 21, 0f 10 W. Washington St., Apt. 101, was charged Dec. 8 with second-degree criminal contempt.

Multiple charges

BATH | Ryan Michael Hampp, 31, of 370 W. Morris St., was charged Monday with obstructing government administration and trespass.

STEUBEN SHERIFFS

Criminal contempt

BATH | Steuben County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit has reported the arrest of a Steuben County Jail inmate Monday in connection to an ongoing sex abuse investigation that occurred in the town of Dansville on Dec. 6. Joseph Volta III, 36, formerly of Oak Hill Road was charged with one count of first-degree criminal contempt. The charge stems from Volta allegedly making a collect telephone call on Dec. 7 from the jail. Volta then allegedly made contact with a person who an order of protection had been issued for by the town of Bath on Dec. 6. Volta was incarcerated on $25,000 cash/$50,000 property bail at the time of this incident. Volta was originally charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual act and once count of endangering the welfare of a child, during the initial investigation in the town of Dansville. Volta was arraigned on the first-degree criminal contempt in the town of Bath court where he was remanded back to the Steuben County Jail without bail. Voluta will appear in the town of Bath court at a later date to answer to charges.

Criminal contempt, Criminal obstruction of breathing

CORNING | Deputies report the arrest of a Corning man following the investigation into several domestic incidents. Keith F. Wilson, 31, of Corning was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree criminal obstruction of breathing. The charges stem from incidents that occurred while there was an active protection order out of the state of Pennsylvania for the victim. Wilson was remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 property bond.

Petit larceny

PAINTED POST | Deputies report that arrest of a Pennsylvania resident Dec. 9. Deputies arrested Carmen L. McCombs, 53, of Fallview Lane Tioga, PA. McCombs was arrested and charged with petit larceny, it's alleged that she was switching price tags on merchandise at the Wal Mart in Painted Post. She was arraigned in the town of Corning court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash $2,000 property bond. She will appear in the town of Erwin court at a later date.

Warrant

ERWIN | Deputies report the arrest of a Caton women Dec. 9. Jessica L. Benedict, 32, of Cheese Factory Road, Corning was arrested on a warrant for petit larceny. Benedict was arraigned in the town of Erwin Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail unable to post $1,000 cash bail $2,000 property bond. She will appear in the town of Erwin court at a later date.

Driving while ability impaired by drugs

JASPER | Deputies report the arrest of Thomas A. Parker, 30, of Dennis Ave in the city of Hornell following a traffic stop on State Route 417 in the town of Jasper. After deputies stopped Parker it was determined that he was in an impaired condition. Parker was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs. Parker was also issued traffic tickets for failure to maintain lane and failure to use windshield wipers during inclement weather.  Parker was released on his own recognizance to appear at a later date in the town of Jasper court to answer the charges against him.

MVA

DANSVILLE | Deputies responded to a one car motor vehicle accident in the early morning of Dec. 9 on County Route 46 in the town of Dansville. Deputies state that Kathy Stein of Dansville was traveling north on County Route 36 when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Stein lost control of her vehicle went off the roadway striking a ditch and over turning coming to rest on the vehicles roof. Stein was taken to Noyes by a private vehicle with minor injuries.

Criminal mischief

CORNING | Deputies report the arrest of a town of Corning resident Dec. 11. Deputies arrested Evin A. Swarthout, 19, of College Ave., Corning after a domestic dispute at his residence. Swarthout was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Allegedly Swarthout caused damage to another person's property during a verbal argument. Swarthout was arraigned in the town of Corning court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. The investigation is continuing and further charges are expected to be filed against Swarthout.

Warrant for violation of conditional discharge

CORNING | Deputies report the arrest of a Wellsburg resident Dec. 7. Erin M. Stephenson, 23, of Main Street was arrested and charged with a warrant for violation of a conditional discharge. She was arraigned in the town of Corning court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail unable to post $2,000 cash bail/$4,000 property bond. She will appear in the city of Corning court at a later date to answer to the charges.

MVA

REXVILLE | Deputies are investigation the accident of Steven M. Smith, 27, of King Hill Road in Rexville, NY on Dec. 9 at about 6:50 a.m. Smith was traveling south on State Route 248 in the town of Greenwood when he lost control on a right curve near Rough and Ready Road. Smith's vehicle entered the norhtbound lane and spun 180 degrees exiting the roadway and striking a concrete barrier and coming to rest on the barrier. Smith was trapped in the vehicle for multiple hours and was not located until deputies passed through the area and stopped to check on the vehicle and discovered the accident. Smith was transported to St. James Mercy Hospital were he was treated and later transferred to Strong Memorial in Rochester. Smith escaped the accident with minor cuts and bruises, and multiple broken bones.

Superior court warrant

• CORNING | Deputies report the arrest of a New York City man, Amos James W. Gweh, 20, of 454 East 168thSt., Apt. 1, Bronx, NY was arrested on a Steuben County Superior Court warrant as a result of a Grand Jury investigation, for two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, all class B. felonies. Gweh on two separate occasions during the later part of 2011 sold a quantity of crack cocaine to a subject in the town of Corning and the city of Corning. Gweh was arraigned in Steuben County Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail with bail set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property.

Investigation continues and other arrests are anticipated.

Wilmott on two separate occasions during the later part of 2011 sold a quantity of crack cocaine to a subject in the town of Corning and the city of Corning. Wilmott was arraigned in Steuben County Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail with bail set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property.

Investigation continues and other arrests are anticipated.

Warrant

HORNELL | Deputies report the arrest of a James E. Bowerman, Sr., 41, of South Hornell Road in the town of Hornellsville on Dec. 8. Bowerman was arrested at his residence on a bench warrant out of the village of Dansville court. Deputies transported Bowerman to the village of Dansville where he was turned over to the custody of the Dansville Police Department.

Petit larceny

PAINTED POST | Connie M. Sanford, 24, of Campbell was arrested Wednesday for petit larceny after allegedly stealing cold sore medication form Wal Mart in Painted Post.

Theft investigation

• CAMPBELL | New York State Police received a report of a burglary on Dec. 7 to a residence off of State Route 415, Campbell. Sometime between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 7 an unknown person gained entry to the residence and stole a 42 inch Sanyo flat screen TV and an XBOX 360. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact State Police at 962-3282 – Inv. Chris Wilkinson.

• CORNING, PAINTED POST | New York State Police have reported of continued thefts from parked vehicles in the Corning-Painted Post area. The latest larcenies occurred overnight on Monday and Tuesday. Valuable such as wallets, electronics and jewelry have been reported stolen both from residential and commercial areas.

Information gained reveals that perpetrators will travel to Corning-Painted Post from outside of the region as this area has been labeled as an easy place to commit thefts. It has been reported that thieves believe a high percentage of residents leave valuables in their unlocked vehicles overnight. This has occurred from parking lots, street side parking, driveways and occasionally an unlocked garage. Residents and shoppers are reminded to lock their vehicles when leaving them unattended. They should also remove all valuables once they return home or reach their destination.

Should anyone see a suspicious vehicle or person(s) in their neighborhood, they should call 911 immediately for the quickest response. Anyone with information into past thefts is requested to contact State Police at 962-3828 or 962-6864.

Trespass

SPARTA | Jerry Pilkenton, 44, Dansville, NY, was charged with trespass on November 26, and was released on an appearance ticket to answer charges in Sparta Town Court on a later date.??everal charges

SPRINGWATER | Joseph R. Huber, 46, Wayland, NY, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, blood alcohol content .18 percent or greater, stopping on a highway and obstructing traffic at an intersection. Huber will answer charges in Springwater Town Court on a later date.?

Criminal mischief?ENESEO | Roger D. Eddy, 49, Dansville, NY, was charged December 6, with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Following arraignment, Eddy was remanded to the Livingston County Jail on no bail. Eddy will report to Geneseo Village Court to address charges on a later date.
