Man charged in recent mail thefts

A Campbell man is facing several charges in two separate cases, one in which involves stolen mail, Painted Post state police said.

Derek D. Wood, 27, of 4788 Church St., was charged with second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal contempt, both felonies, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.

Police said Wood violated an order of protection when he entered and remained at a home in the Town of Thurston. It was during that investigation that mail reported stolen recently from mailboxes in the Campbell area was allegedly found in Wood’s possession.

Wood was arraigned in Erwin Town Court and sent to Steuben County Jail on $10,000 cash bail and $20,000 property bond.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible, police said.
