Wildcats nip Panthers, 47-44

Dylan Price hit a 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining to lift Jasper-Troupsburg to a 47-44 win over Campbell-Savona Wednesday.

The basket concluded a game of runs, as both teams held the lead throughout the contest. After opening with an 8-0 run, the host Panthers watched Jasper-Troupsburg tie the score 10-10 by the close of the first quarter.

The Wildcats (5-2) led 17-15 at halftime, before Campbell-Savona surged with a 22-14 third quarter.

“It was a really good ballgame,” Campbell-Savona head coach Merlin Button said. “We made a run, they made a run. Then we had a really good third quarter.”

Campbell-Savona led by six points early in the fourth quarter, 37-31, before the Wildcats made another charge. Tyler Van Skiver led a 10-0 run with a pair of 3-pointers to give Jasper-Troupsburg a 41-37 lead.

Campbell-Savona responded to tie the game 41-41, setting Price up for his heroics.

The Panthers got a good look at a potential game-tying shot as time expired, but it did not go in, Button said.

Van Skiver finished with 12 points for Jasper-Troupsburg, while teammate Rob Adams led the way with 14 points. Price finished with eight points.

Campbell-Savona countered with 18 points from Caleb Drumm, while Mitchell Allen added 11 points and Tyler Vanderhoff chipped in with 10 points.

The Panthers will travel to Hammondsport today for a 7:15 p.m. game.
