The Bath Haverling girls swim team celebrates their Section V, Class C championship on Friday.

Bath Haverling didn’t need to pile up the wins to claim the Section V, Class C championship Friday, Nov. 9, the Rams had enough depth to pick up points.

Two event wins and 10 podium finishes gave Bath a 43-point win against league rival Dansville for the Class C crown, capping a perfect season for the Rams. Haverling went 10-0 this season with a league and a sectional title to its credit. In the process, three new school records were set on Friday.

“There’s nothing else to win, which is pretty cool,” said Bath coach Sherri Neu. “We’re perfect this season, which is pretty amazing. This is huge for us.”

The winning 400-yard freestyle relay team of Jenna Gleason, Emily Gugliotta, Samantha Taggart, Lauren Barlow broke the school record (3:52.56), shaving six seconds off their sectional qualifying time. Barlow added a win in the 100 backstroke in her home pool.

Meanwhile, Mackenzie Travis broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.53) and finished fourth; Barlow placed second in the 100 freestyle, but set a new school record (55.95); and

Gugliotta finished second in the 200 individual medley, second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly.

“We won with our depth and that’s what we’ve been doing all season,” Neu said. “We knew we had to really build some depth to make this plan work. We had a vision for this and we have some really talented girls.”

Haverling will send Danielle Neu to the state diving meet on Nov. 16 at Ithaca College.
