Bath girls basketball wins season opener at home

Mackenzie Smith netted 20 points to help lead Bath Haverling to a 48-32 seasonopening girls basketball win Tuesday.

??Smith also grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. The Rams also got some long-distance help from Madelyn Czajkowski, who drained four 3-pointers on her way to a 14-point outing.??

“It’s nice to get that opening win, especially with a young team,” Bath coach Randy Abrams said. “I’m happy with our outside shooting.”

??Bath jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter, thanks in part to the Rams’ ability to generate steals. Overall, Bath had 24 steals in the game, led by six from Smith and five from Cayla Coots.??

“We were fairly quick to get into the passing lanes,” Abrams said.??

Smith also netted 10 of her points in the opening quarter, while Czajkowski chipped in with two of her 3-pointers in the first eight minutes.??

Bath went on to lead 27-16 at the half.??

The Rams will host a tournament starting on Friday. Canaseraga will play Campbell-Savona at 6 p.m., followed by Bath hosting Prattsburgh at 7:30 p.m.??
