The Buffalo Bills are in the AFC Championship game for the first time in 27 years and the Kansas City Chiefs are trying to advance to the Super Bowl for the second straight season.
The Bills received the ball first and opened with a 1-yard run by Devin Singletary before quarterback Josh Allen connected with wide receiver Cole Beasley over the middle for 17 yards. Stefon Diggs made a 6-yard catch to set up fourth-and-1 and Buffalo went for it on fourth down, converting with a 8-yard pass to tight end Dawson Knox. Running back T.J. Yeldon made a 7-yard catch but Allen nearly threw an interception to safety Juan Thornhill on third down. Rookie kicker Tyler Bass made a 51-yard field goal. Buffalo 3, Kansas City 0
Kansas City went three-and-out on its first possession. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes lofted a deep pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill on third down but Hill dropped it. Tommy Townsend punted 44 yards to the Bills' 15-yard line.
Allen threw incomplete for Diggs on first down but Singletary ripped off 7 yards and Allen scrambled for 17 yards for a first down. Kansas City got to Allen with a 15-yard sack by rookie cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. Kansas City punt returner Mecole Hardman muffed the punt and the Bills recovered at the Chiefs' 3-yard line.
Kansas City began the drive from its 20. Mahomes hit tight end Travis Kelce for 9 yards and Hardman for 1 yard to move the chains. Kelce brought in another catch for 11 yards before he dropped a ball. Mahomes completed back-to-back passes for first downs to Hill and Kelce and found Byron Pringle for 11 yards on third-and-12. Kansas City converted the fourth-and-1 with a 9-yard catch-and-run by Darrel Williams. Hill made an 8-yard catch on the final play of the quarter.
Mahomes completed to Kelce for 3 yards to set up first-and-goal from the 3-yard line. The Chiefs capped the 14-play, 80-yard drive with a 3-yard TD pass from Mahomes to Hardman. Buffalo 9, Kansas City 7
Buffalo started from the 25-yard line after a touchback. Allen completed to Singletary for 2 yards and then Digs for 6 yards but cornerback Bashaud Breeland was flagged for unnecessary roughness for a slamming Diggs to the ground. Singletary ran for 3 yards to cross midfield but then Singletary dropped a pass and Allen was called for intentional grounding. Bojorquez punted 47 yards to the Chiefs' 18.
Mahomes tossed short right to Pringle for 5 yards and Williams gained a first down with a 6-yard run. Kelce hauled in a reception for 15 yards to make it first-and-goal from the 6 and Williams punched it in up the middle. Kansas City 14, Buffalo 9
Buffalo went three-and-out with Allen's pass on third-and-3 intended for Diggs sailing incomplete.
Mahomes threw to Kelce for 9 yards and rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire picked up 2 yards on the ground for a first down. On the ensuing third down, Mahomes evaded free rushing linebacker Matt Milano and sidearmed a pass to Kelce for 11 yards.
Mahomes took a hit and found Hill for 33 yards to the Bills' 18. Kelce took a catch-and-run 17 yards to the 1-yard line and Edwards-Helaire sprinted up the middle for the 1-yard TD. Kansas City 21, Buffalo 9
The Bills took over with 4:12 left. Allen passed short right Beasley for 14 yards. After an incompletion, Knox brought in a 12-yard catch to the Chiefs' 49. Allen escaped pressure and fired to Yeldon for 20 yards.
Allen took a designed keeper 10 yards before the two-minute warning. Allen threw incomplete for Knox and John Brown made a 7-yard catch on second down. Yeldon ran for up the middle for 4 yards to set up first-and-goal from the 8. Yeldon went up the middle for 4 more yards. Allen was called for a 6-yard loss but the officials reviewed the play and Allen was airborne and hadn't stepped out of bounds when he got rid of the ball and the play was reversed and ruled an incomplete pass. Kansas City got the ball to start the half and opened with a 31-yard play to Hill. Buffalo challenged the play and officials reversed the call and determined Hill stepped out of bounds after a 16-yard gain. Hill made a 5-yard reception and Pringle picked up a first down with a 6-yard catch. Edwards-Helaire was stuffed for a 3-yard loss. Kelce brought in a catch for 8 yards and Hill gained a first down with a 9-yard grab. Hill caught another ball for 7 yards, Mahomes threw incomplete and safety Jordan Poyer popped Edwards-Helaire on a reception for no gain. Harrison Butker made a 45-yard field goal. Buffalo started at its 25-yard line after a touchback. Beasley made a 6-yard catch and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie took a handoff 5 yards for a first down. Allen threw a strike to Brown over the middle for 17 yards. Allen hit Beasley over the middle for 23 yards to the Chiefs' 24. Offensive tackle Dion Dawkins was called for a false start, Allen scrambled for 9 yards and Sneed was flagged for defensive holding to give the Bills a first down at the 15. Williams ran for 1 yard on first down and Mahomes through incomplete on second down but cornerback Tre'Davious White was flagged for defensive holding. Mahomes shoveled an underhanded pass to Kelce for the 1-yard TD. Kansas City 31, Buffalo 15
Buffalo opened its possession with an 8-yard pass to Yeldon. Allen converted a third down with a 6-yard completion to Diggs and Diggs followed it with a 10-yard grab. Beasley hauled in a tipped pass for 6 yards but defensive end Frank Clark sacked Allen for a 10-yard loss. Allen completed to Beasley for 13 yards on third-and-14 to close the quarter.
McKenzie converted a fourth-and-1 with a 4-yard carry and Allen scrambled 18 yards to get to the Chiefs' 20 but was intercepted off a deflection by cornerback, Rashad Fenton who entered the game for an injured Sneed. Fenton returned the pick 30 yards to the Chiefs' 42.
Kansas City continued to move the ball with ease. Kelce made a 12-yard catch and Williams gained another first down with a 5-yard carry. Hill made a reception for 12 yards and Williams followed it with a 11-yard run for a first-and-goal from the 6. Kelce was wide open for a 5-yard touchdown, walking into the end zone. The Bills answered with a touchdown. Allen ran for 8 yards and 11 yards before completing to Beasley for 9 yards to cross midfield. Knox made an 11-yard catch and Singletary hauled in a reception for 7 yards before Allen lost 10 yards on a sack by defensive tackle Chris Jones. Diggs made a 15-yard catch and defensive end Alex Okafor was called for roughing the passer, putting the ball at the Chiefs' 6. Knox had a catch for 6 yards and Allen threw a TD pass to McKenzie.
